About David Mark Erickson
Artist Statement
Photography is an agent of connection and expression in the world for me. I make no distinction between the ‘small’ moments of personal,
human experience and the ‘great’ moments of world events. They are both equally meaningful
in my search to record truth.
I wish to communicate compassionately through my images of the world. In this quest, I am fortunate to have travelled to many countries in my work, including Central and Southeast Europe, the Balkans, the Middle East and Australia. I continue to seek the engagement and discovery of travel.
In these countries I have documented people in their natural and social world, paying attention to their traditions and daily lives. I am particularly drawn to the location and color of the street, and my political consciousness has led me to include the intensity of street demonstrations.
In my photography I aim to inspire and create connection between people and place. I wish to create clever, inventive and technically excellent photographs that record a narrative with simplicity that is of inherent value to the viewers of my photographs.
